Spring fishing can quickly become a very wet sport. It can be sunny one second and pouring the next. There are a lot of rainsuits on the market, but very few are affordable that can keep you dry when the wind turns those raindrops horizontal. For spring fishermen, a good rainsuit is a must, and nobody appreciates the benefits of quality rainwear more than tournament anglers. When the weather turns sour, these guys don’t have the option of going home - fishing is their job. Kevin VanDam, one of the top tournament fishermen, gives us his thoughts on rainsuits:

“I've tried just about all of the Gore-Tex suits, but the 100 MPH suit is my favorite. We live in those things on the tournament trail. It seems like we use the suit a lot more for blocking the wind than we do for rain. It's something that you have to have.

The thing I like about that one over any of the others I've used in the past is it's not cumbersome -- it doesn't restrict my movements when I'm trying to cast, especially when it's cold out. One of the best things about the suit is the suspender system. The way that it's designed, it takes the weight of the bibs off your shoulders, and you don't get that rainsuit fatigue over a day's time.

"The 100 MPH rainsuit also breathes extremely well. Even in warm weather, it's not intolerable. Bass Pro shops also has several lighter-weight Gore-Tex rain suits that are good on 90-degree days. They keep you bone dry. When it's nasty out and it’s raining, and you don't want to be out there, a good rainsuit sure makes it a lot more comfortable.”

Tracker Marine pro Kevin VanDam, of Kalamazoo, Mich., is one of the most dominant anglers on the pro tournament trail. He's won the B.A.S.S. Angler-of-the-Year title three times and has qualified for 10 BASS Masters Classics.
